Research Interests

Specific research interests:

I am interested in the history of Jewish-Christian relations in general, modern Jewish thought, Holocaust Theology, and Anglo-Jewish history. I am also interested in Jewish approaches to the New Testament for what they reveal about modern Jewish identity. My study of Claude Montefiore (1858-1938), founder of Anglo-Liberal Judaism and President of the Anglo-Jewish Association, sought to identify him as a significant figure in the contexts of modern Jewish religious thought, Jewish-Christian relations, and Anglo-Jewish socio-politics.

Forthcoming Publication:

The Apostle Paul in the Jewish Imagination: A Study in Ideology. This project adopts a multi-disciplinary approach to understanding Jewish approaches to Paul, one of the most influential Christian authorities of all time. The ideologies of individual Jewish theologians, religious leaders and New Testament scholars of the last 150 years, alongside artistic, literary, philosophical, and psychological approaches, are contextualised by reference to the history of popular cultural attitudes.
